I spent eighteen years studying how people move through cities. Traffic signals for the first eight. Emerging technology and how it could make those systems work better for the next ten. I had a degree in civil engineering from Osmania University and a master's in transportation engineering from Texas A&M, and from 1999 to 2010 I was research faculty at the University of South Florida.
I had already been teaching meditation since 1995, alongside all of that. In 2010 I stopped splitting my time. I left the university and made the practice the whole of my work.
Thirty-two years now with the Brahma Kumaris, in the Rajyoga tradition. I direct a meditation center in Florida and sit on the national leadership team for Brahma Kumaris USA. I have sat with thousands of people in retreat and watched the same thing happen in room after room. People want stillness. They sit down and their mind won't let them. I write about why.
I have written eight books on the inner life, including Free Your Mind from Overthinking. I host the podcast Spiritual Sense and teach courses on Insight Timer. Most weeks you will find me on Substack, working through a chapter of the Ramayana or an essay on what artificial intelligence cannot do.
I did not plan the path from engineering to this. I only know I would not trade it.
